“If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?” (1 John 4:20) Without love, we have nothing. When a race of people are generalized as “the problem”, hatred grows and the solution is lost. Dealing with race issues in America tends to cause people to stand on one side and point fingers at the “enemy”. We demonized fellow humans and treat them as less than, leading to violence and revenge, creating a cycle of hatred. If we see each other as unique beings, not generalized groups, and walk in love, we will come to an understanding and true communion. With love, the cycle of hate is forever broken. As a black man living in America, the duality of an “African-American”, the greatest gift I have is the power to forgive and to love. This is my gift given by my Father that can never be taken away.
